Shared SSL IP
What's a shared SSL IP? How to install an SSL certificate on such an IP?
Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encrypt the information exchanged between a hosting server and its users. The practical application of employing an SSL is to preserve the information which site visitors submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, and so on. Any information they enter in any box on the website shall be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment details will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Usually, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be set up, which implies the overall cost for your web presence will be higher. While this might not be an issue for a larger company, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store which does not generate big earnings if additional money should be spent. This is the reason why we've taken advantage of an extension referred to as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting
Considering that we offer SSL certificates with our shared hosting solutions, you can easily secure your website and use a shared IP address with only a couple of clicks. The option will be available during the order process, hence if you have a dedicated IP, you'll be able to use it, but if you don't have one and you do not want to pay for such a service, you can use the shared IP, which has been set up specifically for SSLs. The certificate shall work in the very same way as if it had a dedicated IP address and the sole difference will be that if somebody attempts to open the IP address as a URL, they'll not see your website. As our system features an auto-configuration option, the SSL shall be set up automatically once it's issued, so you'll not need to do anything on your end after you approve it. That way, you'll be able to have a protected and trustworthy site without having to spend extra cash for that.
