If you'd like to direct a domain address that you have to another domain or subdomain, one of the ways to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain address being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it's redirected to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be redirected to the website that you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because such a record created for the main domain name renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which we provide with each and every Linux shared service, will permit you to set up CNAME records for any domain name or subdomain hosted within the account with just a few mouse clicks. If you aren't confident how to go about it, you can check the video tutorial available in the CP, read the in depth Help article on the subject, or just simply contact us and we can help you 24/7, though it is not likely that you will experience any troubles as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to select a domain/subdomain, type in the hostname you're redirecting to, and save the change. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records permits you to have better control over your domain names and website content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow individuals with no previous experience to set up this sort of records easily.
